Mentoring in A04: High school student Helena reflects on her internship in A04

Helena joined our online #Girl’sDay in 2023 before applying for her high school internship with the SFB1315 project A04. With an interest in pharmacy studies and molecular experimentation, there was an offer of a placement in the A04 lab of SFB1315 Speaker and A04, A10, Z project leader Prof. Matthew Larkum PhD. This opportunity gave Helena valuable insights into work in the lab, in the neuroscience context. She reflects on her time in AG Larkum:

My two-week work experience (internship) at the Larkum Lab in Charitéplatz 1 (CCO) in Berlin Mitte was great. I got to meet the investigative team, from the SFB1315 Speaker Matthew Larkum to the lab manager Robert Sachdev, postdocs, PhDs and Master students. Everyone was very welcoming and explained in detail everything that they were doing and showed me the methods and instruments they used. I would join this placement again and would encourage anyone else interested in science and scientific investigations to take the opportunity to do this placement.

The SFB1315 (Mechanisms and Disturbances in Memory Consolidation: from Synapses to Systems) is a DFG-funded neuroscience project focusing on memory consolidation. As part of our outreach activities, we support lab visits and company internships for high school students.
