Open-source experiment control software for behavioural neuroscience
Precise control of behavioral experiments is crucial in neuroscience for coordinating stimuli presentation, responses, and data acquisition. While open-source solutions have strengths, challenges such as fragmentation, complexity, and poor integration hinder adoption. This project aims to develop a modular, unified open-source platform (in C++ or Rust) combining precise timing, intuitive interfaces, scripting flexibility (Python/Lua), AI-supported video analysis, and cloud scalability. Supporting diverse animal models and standardized data formats (e.g., NWB), it will enhance interoperability, efficiency, and reproducibility. Developed within CRC1315, the platform will ensure sustainable maintenance post-funding, delivering a transformative tool for neuroscience research.
