Congratulations to B05 co-PI Lukas Kunz (UKBonn) for receiving an ERC Starting Grant for "NEUROSPACE: Making sense of space: Uncovering the roles of egocentric neurons for spatial behavior in humans" (UKB press) and congratulations today, to the HU's Hertie Senior Professor (and former SFB1315 C01 co-PI) Peter Hegemann - for being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2026 together with Karl Deisseroth and Georg Nagel “for their discoveries concerning light-gated ion channels and optogenetics” (Nobel.org press). What great news!

When animals are in an off-line, non-locomotor behavioral state, neuronal activity in the hippocampus is thought to be largely disengaged from the present setting to enable cognitive mechanisms such as memory consolidation and planning. But how does the brain re-engage with the present surroundings during this behavioral state and permit access to current sensory information or promote new memory formation? Read more here

"Gender-based digital violence is a growing challenge for both gender equality and academic freedom. Nina Vischer and Prof. Dr. Katherine Guertler (OTH Regensburg) present findings from the project “Digital Hate — Digital violence against female professors in contentious fields of knowledge,” examining experiences of professors working in gender, migration and climate research. The lecture also discusses institutional strategies and support structures against digital hate in academia."
